March has arrived! Last week ended with a
wonderful field trip to the Pioneer Living History Museum (pictures will be up
soon!). Students examined a covered wagon, panned for gold, and saw many
of the buildings in which people lived as the West was being settled. It
was so much fun to walk around with the students and see the connections they
made to our history studies as well as what we’ve read in Little House
in the Big Woods. Here is a look at our final week before spring
break.
Literature: This week, we will be finishing Little
House in the Big Woods. Students will now have experienced every
season of the year with the Ingalls family. As we finish the book, we
will be completing the lapbooks that we have been making all quarter. We
will also reflect on drawbacks and benefits to life at the time in comparison
to life now.
Grammar/Riggs: On Tuesday we will introduce one
last set of Riggs words, and then for the rest of the week we will just test
these last sets of words without introducing new ones. There will be no
new Grammar topics this week but we will continue to review the process of
writing a five sentence expository paragraph.
History: As we wrap up our unit on westward
expansion, we will continue to discuss the Native Americans living on the
plains. Students will learn how many tribes depended on the buffalo and
how they were affected when some pioneers began to kill the buffalo. We
will also spend time reviewing everything that we have covered this quarter
regarding westward expansion.
Science: This Tuesday is our test on the
digestive system! On Monday we will spend our science time playing a
Jeopardy review game of the digestive system to do some final preparation for
the test on Tuesday. On Thursday, we will talk a bit more about healthy
eating and discuss nutrients as well as foods to avoid. We will have a
science game day on Friday in which students will play bingo to review science
topics from our year.
Important Notes:
-Class pictures will be taken Monday, March 3
(tomorrow).

Please remember that Field Day is not designed for parents to just come and
watch. We need parents to help run the event. Volunteers must have Great Hearts volunteer cards
to help out on this day.
-There will be no tutoring this week. Tutoring will resume on March 24.
